From Monday, September 9th to Sunday, September 15th, the European Battery Recycling Week will be celebrated in several European countries. This is an initiative of the members of Eucobat, the European association of national battery collection organizations in Europe. 

Various local awareness campaigns will be conducted in the different countries throughout the week aiming to remind all European citizens of the importance of collecting, sorting and recycling of used batteries.

The evaluation of the current Battery Directive has been completed, and will soon be followed by an impact assessment of the proposed measures. The compliance organizations, represented by Eucobat, that are realizing the extended producer responsibility for the waste batteries, by organizing the collection, recycling, reporting and financing, would like to highlight hereby the main issues related to the existing legislation.

The European Commission launched a public consultation on the sustainability requirements for batteries.

The scope is not 100% clear, as it applies in principle to all batteries, but the focus is clearly on e-mobility and storage batteries. 

On July 2-3 2019, hundreds of product stewardship professionals converged in Paris at the International Stewardship Forum, in order to  deepen the collective commitment to reduce the resources we consume, return materials to the circular economy, and minimize our impact on the environment, all while rejuvenating the local and international economies.

At its meeting on Friday, April 12th 2019, the General Assembly of Eucobat renewed the mandate of most directors, and additionally, Luigi De Rocchi of the Italian collection scheme for batteries Cobat was appointed as a new director.

The General Assembly approved unanimously the application of Febelauto during its meeting on Friday, April 12th 2019.

The 24rd International Congress for Battery Recycling (ICBR) will take place from September 18th until September 20th 2019 at the Marriott Hotel Cité International in Lyon (France).

ICBR is the international platform for presenting the latest developments and discussing the challenges faced by the battery recycling industry.  The 23rd edition of ICBR will bring together many experts and decision makers of the battery recycling value chain such as battery manufacturers, battery recyclers, OEMs from the electronic and e-mobility industry, collection schemes operators, service and transport companies, policy makers and many more.
